Lincoln Ladies Aid Industria: Celebrating 140 Years of Service
A new exhibit at the Lincoln Library highlights the history of the Lincoln Ladies Aid Industria, a volunteer, philanthropic organization turning 140 this year that supports local residents and organizations in Lincoln and beyond.
The former Ladies Aid Society gathers for a meeting at the home of Lincoln residents Watson and Annette Morgan in 1892. The society later merged with a similar group (the Ladies Industria) to become what’s now known as the Lincoln Ladies Aid Industria, a philanthropic group serving the Lincoln community that will celebrate its 140th birthday this year. Annette was a key Ladies Aid member and helped establish the town’s library. LHS2025.163.001
Artifacts on display include melted glass recovered from where the Good Templars Hall burned down, a handwritten invitation to a Ladies Aid event, and a “friendship patchwork quilt” made by Ladies Aid members during the 1920s, featuring members’ initials on the quilt’s squares.
Newspaper clippings in the exhibit show how the Lincoln Ladies Aid Industria has kept busy through the years — sewing quilts, hosting harvest suppers and organizing social events like baked bean dinners and strawberry teas.
For over 50 years, the Lincoln Ladies Aid Industria has hosted twice-annual rummage sales, a popular tradition that helps raise money for the surrounding community.
